XC Skiing with Harlem Lacrosse

On this most recent Saturday 1/22/22, Elevate Youth organized for around 20 kids from Harlem Lacrosse to go XC Skiing at Weston Ski Track in Weston, MA.

Most of the kids we brought had never been skiing of any type before and actually a few of our instructors and volunteers for the day were new to XC skiing as well. Luckily the first hour we spent at Weston was with two awesome ski instructors named Claire and Sharon who taught us a bunch of good skills and tips before we headed out on our own around the track.

Weston Ski Track is set up on a golf course, runs in a continual figure eight-ish shape, and includes a bunch of small hills with one larger hill.

The track is a really cool spot because they make their own snow and it is pretty well contained meaning the kids are able to have some more freedom to explore while at the same time being a  large enough area for anyone to have a good time.

Since we cannot rely on adequate snowfall here in MA, the ability to ski for an entire season on this track is a really nice feature. Plus the kids definitely thought it was a pretty funny experience to be skiing with really perfect weather on fresh soft snow all while being able to see grass anywhere outside of the track. The ski track acts as a little portal into winter.

As always, the kids from Harlem Lacrosse are so fun to work with and they really did an awesome job embracing the newness and learning how to XC Ski. They did great in the lesson and then immediately took their new skills out onto the rest of the track. Everyone, including adults, embraced lots of falls throughout the day with lots of laughter and encouragement from friends. The reviews at the end of the day were overwhelmingly positive and they are ready for another trip to Weston as soon as possible.

We have a bunch more trips planned to Weston with several different partner programs including Harlem Lacrosse and we definitely can't wait to get back out there!

Thanks to everyone who came out!!!
