A Taste of Summer
As the weather warms, we begin to look forward to the magical time year many of us remember with fondness from when we were kids. The suspense of the countdown till the last day of school followed by the free time to explore outside, hang with friends, travel, experience new things, and maybe even attending an overnight camp.
Summer time isn't quite here for the Kenny and Hennigan students, however this past weekend they received a sneak peak of what is to come this summer.
On Friday the June 3rd, Elevate Youth members left school and traveled up to Deer Field, New Hampshire and arrived at Lateran lights camp for a one night camping trip. Although this was the first time these two schools had meet you wouldn’t have known it by the end of the following day.
The two group began to bond quickly with many of the activities that were planned, starting with the first of many great meals that were put on by the Lantern Light staff.
The activities that followed were “fun, tiring, exhausting, hard”, in the words of some students. This would very much be what many of us in the outdoor industry would consider as “type 2 fun.”
New friends, tie-died shirts, and lava lamps were made. Long hikes and kayaking trips were completed. Frogs were caught, salamanders were found, and a pet spider was taken home in a jar. Kebabs, S’mores, and banana boats filled with every sweet you you could imagine were eaten. There was even stiff competition with board games, gaga ball, and the crowd favorite of man hunt.
It's hard to believe that so much could take place in 48 hours. However, hearing the kids talk to each other about looking forward to a longer trip next month and sharing their experience with their family on the walk to the car tops it all.
