Elevate Youth's Community Yard Sale

At Elevate Youth, we recognize that one major barrier to spending time outside is lack of access to the proper gear. As the winter creeps into Boston, families and communities are searching for quality coats, hats, gloves, and jackets to keep them warm until the spring. Whether walking to the T every morning, playing outside at recess, or preparing to hit the slopes on a ski trip, Elevate Youth wants our community to feel safe, comfortable, and warm outside this winter.

On December 10th, Elevate Youth hosted our first-ever Community Yard Sale at our headquarters in Dorchester. From 11am to 4pm, our neighbors, friends, and families stopped by to prepare for the winter and complete some holiday shopping.

Those who stopped by were greeted by the friendly faces of Cam, Elevate Youth’s Director of Programming & Operations, and Alec, Elevate Youth’s Founder & Executive Director, alongside hundreds of high-quality, low-cost items. Our Yard Sale featured new and gently used items from Patagonia, Under Armor, Keens, and more name-brands in fantastic condition – many still with the tags attached. In an effort to make these items accessible to our community, nothing cost more than $10, and many bins were labeled “free”.

Concurrent with our winter Yard Sale, Lead Outdoor Instructors Waddy and Hailey brought participants from the Boys and Girls Club of Dorchester to Duxbury, MA, to learn about cranberries, visit a bog, and enjoy some outdoor cooking in the snow. When families arrived to pick their kids up after the trip, they were excited to join in on the Yard Sale deals. Many walked away with bags and armfuls of winter coats, puffy jackets, base layers, fleeces, boots, t-shirts, and more.

The remainder of unsold items will be donated to Help by AMG, another local non-profit specializing in supporting unhoused youth in the Boston area. Help by AMG aims to “help everyone live prosperously,” by providing at-risk and homeless youth in Suffolk County, MA with care packages of essential items. They also act as a bridge to other services & opportunities to improve their overall lives and wellbeing.

Elevate Youth is proud to support our community and the families of our youth as the weather gets cold. Learn more about Elevate Youth’s commitment to meeting the needs of our community here.
