Jack Murphy Foundation

Elevate Youth is proud to announce the launch of our partnership with the Jack Murphy Foundation . Today would have been Jack Murphy’s 23rd birthday.

Jack’s sudden and tragic death inspired friends and family to start the Jack Murphy Foundation to continue Jack’s legacy by sharing his passion for the outdoors and wilderness education with others. Their hope is to support young people in gaining an exposure to the outdoors that ignites their passion to pursue their own adventures, and to provide needed resources to those called to a career in the outdoors but require funding to pursue their passion. In this way, Jack’s spirit will live on.

Jack was taken this summer in a lightning storm while on a backpacking trip and wilderness medicine course in Wyoming. There are times the loss has felt unbearable to those close to him. They take comfort in knowing he was doing what he loved best - being in the outdoors learning while in awe of the beauty of nature.

Now that he is gone, friends and family are honored to find a way to continue his legacy by supporting other young adventurers to pursue their passion for the outdoors. Jack’s family believes that access to nature’s many activities should not be limited by means and they are proud to support young adventurers to live, learn, teach and serve in the outdoors. They are excited to announce we are starting immediately. Initial grants have been made to NOLS, a nonprofit global wilderness school, and t us here at Elevate Youth, a Boston-based nonprofit dedicated to empowering youth to explore the outdoors.

Elevate Youth is a Boston non-profit dedicated to breaking down barriers to outdoor activities for kids in the surrounding Boston area. Elevate Youth’s mission is to empower youth to explore the outdoors alongside mentors, sharing awe and the richness of our natural world.

The Jack Murphy Memorial Grant will provide financial support for students who have demonstrated an interest in pursuing outdoor education and leadership skills through the Elevate Youth Program. Funds will be solely directed to the facilitation and execution of the Elevate Youth “Leaders” Program. Awarded funds will be put towards general and program expenses of the yearlong Leaders program and any additional funding will come from Elevate Youth. Funds from the Jack Murphy Memorial Grant will specifically be used for Elevate Youth’s upcoming Youth Leadership Council and engage our program graduates. Through education, advocacy, and mentorship, our youthers will carry on Jack Murphy’s legacy. More details on this program to come.

Elevate Youth is grateful for the opportunity to partner with the Jack Murphy Foundation in efforts to support the next generation of young adventurers and enable equitable immersion to nature for all those who are curious. EY appreciates the Jack Murphy Foundation’s commitment to support young adventurers with a passion to experience, live, learn, teach and serve in the great outdoors.
